Where to find us
The Orogenes and Basins theme focuses on deformation and material transfer processes at the scale of sedimentary chains and basins. Research focuses on the processes controlling the propagation and mechanisms of crustal deformation, and their interactions with climate-controlled surface processes, in intra-continental and marine domains.
The theme is organized into 3 main chapters:
Morphogenesis
Interactions/couplings between Tectonics/Surface processes (erosion/transport/sedimentation)/Climate.
Mechano-stratigraphy
Impact on the structure and dynamics of the orogenic prism and sedimentary basins.
Legacy
The role of the structural, rheological and thermal heritage of basins on the location of deformation.
Tools
A highly multidisciplinary approach is used:
- Field.
- Structural geology.
- Stratigraphy.
- Petrological and geochemical analysis.
- Geochronology.
- Spatial imaging and geophysics.
- Experimentation.
- Analog and digital modeling.
